Institute for Sustainable Urbanism

The Institute for Sustainable Urbanism (ISU) at the  Technische Universität Braunschweig addresses the  manifold challenges of a sustainable urban development, i.e. 1) the identification and analysis of stable and new emerging phenomena of urban development, and 2) the development of methods to deal with the resulting consequences. The previous work of the ISU that is relevant for the project consider the fields of sustainable transformation of cities, the  relation between city shape and sustainable patterns of utilization and mobility and the impact of mobility networks on the development of cities. Since 2015 the ISU works an an BMBF-funded project that aims for innovative development of rural areas in Lower Saxony (teach4tu). As the head of ISU, Prof. Dr. Vanessa Miriam Carlow has developed numerous space-strategic mobility plans for resource preserving ways of transportation.
