  Cell-edge users (CEUs) in cellular networks typically suffer from poor channel conditions due to long distances from serving base stations and physical obstructions, resulting in much lower data rates compared to cell-center users (CCUs). This paper proposes an Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)-assisted cellular network with intelligent power control to address the performance gap between CEUs and CCUs. Unlike conventional approaches that either deploy UAVs for all users or use no UAV assistance, our model uses a distance-based criterion where only users beyond a reference distance receive UAV relay assistance. Each UAV operates as an amplify-and-forward relay, enabling assisted users to receive signals from both the base station and the UAV simultaneously, thereby achieving diversity gain. To optimize transmission power allocation across base stations, we employ a Deep Q-Network (DQN) learning framework that learns power control policies without requiring accurate channel models. Simulation results show that the proposed approach achieves a peak average rate of 2.28 bps/Hz at the optimal reference distance of 400m, which represents a 3.6% improvement compared to networks without UAV assistance and 0.9% improvement compared to networks where all users receive UAV support. The results also reveal that UAV altitude and reference distance are critical factors affecting system performance, with lower altitudes providing better performance.

  Purpose: This study investigated sustainability readiness and the adoption of green technologies in Nigerian university libraries. The research was motivated by the growing need for libraries to align with global sustainability goals through environmentally responsible operations. Design: Using a cross-sectional survey design, data were collected from 327 professional librarians across Nigerian universities through a validated online questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze responses, while Spearman's correlation and simple linear regression tested the hypotheses. Results: Findings revealed that Nigerian university libraries exhibit moderate sustainability readiness, characterized by increasing awareness and managerial support but constrained by weak policy frameworks, inadequate funding and limited infrastructure. Libraries have largely adopted low-cost green practices such as digital resource use and energy-efficient lighting, while more capital-intensive technologies, including renewable energy systems and recycling programs, remain underutilized. The study established a strong, positive and statistically significant relationship between sustainability readiness and the adoption of green technologies. Conclusion: The study concludes that Nigerian university libraries are transitioning from conceptual awareness to operational sustainability, though progress remains uneven. It recommends that university administrations develop clear sustainability policies, allocate dedicated funding, and strengthen staff capacity through training. Professional associations and government agencies should also establish regulatory frameworks and partnerships to promote green innovation. These actions will enable libraries to serve as catalysts for environmental responsibility in higher education.

  Artificial gauge fields allow uncharged particles such as photons to mimic the behaviour of charged particles subjected to magnetic fields, providing a powerful platform to alter the effective dynamics and exploring topological physics. Topological exciton-polariton lasers have attracted considerable interest, but often require strong magnetic fields to realise propagating topological edge states. Here we experimentally realise the topological Hall effect in a micron-scale micropillar chain by using an artificial gauge field, exploiting the circular polarisation of polaritons as an artificial dimension. Careful rotational alignment of elliptical micropillars induces strictly polarisation-dependent edge-state propagation, demonstrating non-reciprocal transport of the polariton pseudospins. Our results demonstrate that the dimensionality limitation of topological interface states as well as requirements for strong external magnetic fields in coupled topological laser arrays can be overcome. Our results open new ways towards the implementation of topological polariton lattices and related optically active devices with additional artificial dimension.

  Abstract The discovery of near-room-temperature superconductivity in the lanthanum hydride LaH10 has revolutionized this research field. However, the need to use diamond anvils for the synthesis of hydride superconductors severely limits the experimental techniques to study these materials. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is one of the key methods for probing spin systems of superconductors. Here we show how 1H NMR can be realized in diamond anvil cells to study lanthanum polyhydrides at pressures up to 165 GPa. In the newly discovered superhydride LaH12, we observed a pronounced suppression of the 1H NMR signal intensity below Tconset = 260 K in a magnetic field of 7 T, corresponding to the screening of the radio-frequency pulses. Below the critical temperature, all 1H NMR characteristics, including the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1T, exhibit pronounced features that may be associated with superconductivity. In zero field, the radio-frequency signal transmission shows a pronounced drop below Tconset ≈ 267?279 K, indicating the very beginning of the transition in the most ideal microcrystals. A description of the 1/T1T data with an exponential form allows the estimation of the superconducting gap ?(0) = 427?671 K (corresponding to 36.8?57.8 meV), and the ratio R? = 2?(0)/kBTc between 3.76 and 5.16 in the synthesized polyhydride.

Subsurface improvements near 300 m are linked to improved simulations of equatorial undercurrents, Gulf Stream dynamics, and the Deep Western Boundary Current, leading to a more realistic representation of AMOC and high-latitude deep-water formation.   This paper presents the first systematic investigation of how congruence in visual self-representation influences self-perception and behavior. We span a continuum from the physical self through avatars with graded self-similarity to clearly dissimilar avatars in virtual reality (VR). In a 1x4 within-user study, participants completed movement and quiz tasks in either physical reality or a digital twin environment in VR, where they embodied one of three avatars: a photorealistic self-similar avatar, a dissimilar same-gender avatar, or a dissimilar opposite-gender avatar. Subjective measures included presence, sense of embodiment, self-identification, and perceived change, and were complemented by an objective movement metric of behavioral change. Compared to physical reality, VR, even with a self-similar avatar, produced lower presence, a weaker sense of embodiment, and reduced self-identification, revealing a persistent gap in visual congruence. Within VR, self-similar avatars enhanced body ownership, self-location, and self-identification relative to dissimilar avatars. Conversely, dissimilar avatars produced measurable behavioral changes compared with self-similar ones. Gender cues, however, had little impact in gender-neutral tasks. Overall, the findings show that photorealistic self-similar avatars reinforce embodiment and self-identification. However, VR still falls short of achieving congruence with physical reality, underscoring key challenges for avatar realism and ecological validity.

  Integrated Virtual Reality (IVR) systems are central to avatar-mediated use cases in Virtual Reality (VR), reconstructing users' movements on avatars. They differ primarily in their tracking architectures, which determine how completely and accurately users' movements are captured and reconstructed on avatars. Many current IVR systems reduce user-worn hardware, trading reconstruction accuracy against cost and setup complexity, yet their impact on user experience and task performance across use cases remains underexplored. We compared three reduced user-worn IVR systems. Each system has distinct technical approaches: (1) Captury (markerless outside-in optical tracking), (2) Meta Movement SDK (markerless inside-out optical tracking), and (3) Vive Trackers (marker-based outside-in optical tracking with IMUs). In a 3x5 mixed-design, participants performed five tasks, simulating different use cases, to probe distinct aspects of these systems. No system consistently outperformed the others. Meta excelled in hand-based, fast-paced interactions, while Captury and Vive performed better in lower-body tasks and during full-body pose observation. These findings underscore the need to evaluate reduced user-worn IVR systems within the specific use case. We offer practical guidance for system selection based on use-case demands and released our tasks as an open-source, extensible framework to support future evaluations for selecting IVR systems.

  Social Virtual Reality (SVR) allows users to meet and build relationships through embodied avatars and real-time interaction in virtual spaces. While embodiment can strengthen social connections and presence, it can also intensify negative encounters, making SVR particularly vulnerable to harassment. Despite frequent reports of verbal, visual, and "physical" violations in SVR, little is known about how harassment reshapes users' self-perception, including their sense of embodiment, self-identification, closeness, and avatar customization preferences. We conducted a controlled experiment with 52 participants who experienced either a neutral or a harassment condition in a scenario modeled after real SVR incidents. Participants perceived the harassing peer as significantly more negative, annoying, and disturbing than the neutral peer. Contrary to prior reports, harassment did not significantly affect well-being measures, including emotional state, self-esteem, and physiological arousal, within this controlled scenario. However, participants reported stronger bodily change, attributed more of their own attitudes and emotions to their avatars, and increased interpersonal distance when personal space was invaded. Self-reported coping strategies included ignoring, stepping back, using humor, and retaliating. Notably, avatar customization preferences shifted across conditions. Participants in the neutral condition favored personalized avatars, whereas those in the harassment condition more frequently preferred anonymity in public spaces. Together, these findings demonstrate that harassment in SVR not only exploits embodiment but also reshapes self-perception. We further contribute methodological insights into how harassment can be ethically and reproducibly studied in controlled SVR-like experiments.

  The global prevalence of mental health disorders has created a substantial treatment gap. To support clinicians and increase access to care, researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) have investigated technology-mediated psychotherapy for years. However, research about stakeholders' concerns and their readiness to use AI in psychotherapy remains scarce. This study focuses on a user-centered approach to accommodate patients' concerns and, based on the results, implement measures to foster self-disclosure and trust towards an embodied AI therapist in VR. First, we conducted an online study with mental health patients (\($N = 152$\)), which identified data autonomy and transparency as their primary ethical concerns. In a subsequent in-person VR study (\($N = 90$\)) we compared effects of increased data autonomy and transparency on self-disclosure and trust towards an embodied AI therapist. Results indicated that higher data autonomy led to greater self-disclosure, while transparency had no significant effect. Manipulating data autonomy and transparency did not affect perceived trust, though exploratory calculations revealed that women reported significantly higher trust levels than men. These findings illuminate patients' priorities and provide implications for technical designs for AI-driven mental health care.

CECA employs a client–server architecture to decouple agent logic from game engine–based embodiment. Built on LiveKit Agents, our approach integrates speech-to-text (STT), large language models (LLMs), and text-to-speech (TTS) into a unified, streaming voice-to-voice pipeline configured via metadata rather than code changes. We outline how this architecture flexibly integrates local and cloud AI providers while mitigating limited provider SDK support in Unity.   This study updates the ILO’s 2023 Global Index of Occupational Exposure to Generative AI (GenAI), incorporating recent advances in the technology and increasing user familiarity with GenAI tools. Using a representative sample from the 29,753 tasks in the Polish occupational classification system and a survey of 1,640 people employed in each 1-digit ISCO-08 groups, we collect 52,558 data points regarding perceive potential of automation for 2,861 tasks. We then compare this input with a survey and several rounds of Delphi-style discussions among a smaller group of international experts. Based on this process, we create a repository of knowledge about task automation that goes beyond national specificities and use it to develop an AI assistant able to predict scores for tasks in the technical documentation of ISCO-08. Our 2025 scores are presented in a revised framework of four progressively increasing exposure gradients, with a new set of global estimates of employment shares exposed to GenAI. Clerical occupations continue to have the highest exposure levels. Additionally, some strongly digitized occupations have increased exposure, highlighting the expanding abilities of GenAI regarding specialized tasks in professional and technical roles. Globally, one in four workers are in an occupation with some GenAI exposure. 3.3% of global employment falls into the highest exposure category, albeit with significant differences between female (4.7%) and male employment (2.4%). These differences increase with countries’ income (9.6% female vs 3.5% male in Gradient 4 in HICs), and so does the overall exposure (11% of total employment in LICs vs 34% in HICs). As most occupations consist of tasks that require human input, transformation of jobs is the most likely impact of GenAI. Linking our refined index with national micro data enables precise projections of such transformations, offering a foundation for social dialogue and targeted policy responses to manage the transition.

  Masked Autoencoders (MAEs) learn rich representations in audio classification through an efficient self-supervised reconstruction task. Yet, general-purpose models struggle in fine-grained audio domains such as bird sound classification, which demands distinguishing subtle inter-species differences under high intra-species variability. We show that bridging this domain gap requires full-pipeline adaptation beyond domain-specific pretraining data. Using BirdSet, a large-scale bioacoustic benchmark, we systematically adapt pretraining, fine-tuning, and frozen feature utilization. Our Bird-MAE sets new state-of-the-art results on BirdSet’s multi-label classification benchmark. Additionally, we introduce the parameter-efficient prototypical probing, which boosts the utility of frozen MAE features by achieving up to 37 mAP points over linear probes and narrowing the gap to fine-tuning in low-resource settings. Bird-MAE also exhibits strong few-shot generalization with prototypical probes on our newly established few-shot benchmark on BirdSet, underscoring the importance of tailored self-supervised learning pipelines for fine-grained audio domains.

  Deep learning (DL) has greatly advanced audio classification, yet the field is limited by the scarcity of large-scale benchmark datasets that have propelled progress in other domains. While AudioSet is a pivotal step to bridge this gap as a universal-domain dataset, its restricted accessibility and limited range of evaluation use cases challenge its role as the sole resource. Therefore, we introduce BirdSet, a large-scale benchmark dataset for audio classification focusing on avian bioacoustics. BirdSet surpasses AudioSet with over 6,800 recording hours (\\\\uparrow\\\\!17\\\\%) from nearly 10,000 classes (\\\\uparrow\\\\!18\\\\times) for training and more than 400 hours (\\\\uparrow\\\\!7\\\\times) across eight strongly labeled evaluation datasets. It serves as a versatile resource for use cases such as multi-label classification, covariate shift or self-supervised learning. We benchmark six well-known DL models in multi-label classification across three distinct training scenarios and outline further evaluation use cases in audio classification. We host our dataset on Hugging Face for easy accessibility and offer an extensive codebase to reproduce our results.

  In recent years, the need to advance environmental sustainability in libraries has led to the growth of the green library concept. This paper explores how libraries can contribute to sustainability by examining green library concepts, key features, core elements, and practical implementation strategies. Using a review of existing literature, the paper highlights features such as eco-friendly building design, energy efficiency, good indoor environmental quality, and community education. Key elements include collaboration with stakeholders, use of sustainable building materials, maximizing natural light and ventilation, and adopting renewable energy sources. Implementation strategies discussed include sustainable construction and renovation, adoption of energy-saving technologies, waste management, water conservation, staff training, policy integration, and public awareness campaigns. While examples from other countries show that green libraries can succeed, progress in Nigeria remains slow due to limited funding, weak policies, and low environmental awareness. The paper concludes that green libraries can play a vital role in protecting the environment and promoting sustainability if supported by strong policy frameworks, adequate funding, and active community involvement.

  Purpose: This study aims to describe and examine the strategy used by the Taman Ismail Marzuki Library for increasing its social sustainability capabilities. Design/methodology/approach: The research questions in this study are (1) What is the TIM Library's social sustainability strategy for supporting the green library concept? and (2) What are the impediments and facilitators to implementing the green library concept in the TIM Library through a social sustainability process? This study adopted a qualitative approach, using a case study method, in research conducted over the period July--November 2022. The data collection methods used were purposive sampling, interviews, observations and document analysis. Findings: This study's findings indicate that the TIM library's social sustainability strategy supports economic sustainability up to the independence stage, whereas environmental sustainability is still at the empowerment stage. The green library concept is sustainable due to the library's commitment to the ``third place'' concept and library cooperation. The TIM Library's continuing strategy to use creative community development programs to attract public interest and change the library's perception in the community should help it realize the green library concept. Practical implications: Libraries can use the research findings to guide their strategies for community engagement and inclusivity. Social implications: The paper suggests that policymakers supporting libraries can consider incorporating elements of the Green Library concept and community development stages into policies to enhance the societal impact of libraries. ACTIVE BIRD2VEC is set to generate high-quality bird sound representations through SSL, potentially accelerating the assessment of environmental changes and decision-making processes for wind farms.   Deep active learning (DAL) seeks to reduce annotation costs by enabling the model to actively query instance annotations from which it expects to learn the most. Despite extensive research, there is cur- rently no standardized evaluation protocol for transformer-based lan- guage models in the field of DAL. Diverse experimental settings lead to difficulties in comparing research and deriving recommendations for prac- titioners. To tackle this challenge, we propose the ActiveGLAE bench- mark, a comprehensive collection of data sets and evaluation guidelines for assessing DAL. Our benchmark aims to facilitate and streamline the evaluation process of novel DAL strategies. Additionally, we provide an extensive overview of current practice in DAL with transformer-based language models.   Three fields revolving around the question of how to cope with limited amounts of labeled data are Deep Active Learning (DAL), deep Constrained Clustering (CC), and Weakly Supervised Learning (WSL). DAL tackles the problem by adaptively posing the question of which data samples to annotate next in order to achieve the best incremental learning improvement, although it suffers from several limitations that hinder its deployment in practical settings. We point out how CC algorithms and WSL could be employed to overcome these limitations and increase the practical applicability of DAL research. Specifically, we discuss the opportunities to use the class discovery capabilities of CC and the possibility of further reducing human annotation efforts by utilizing WSL. We argue that the practical applicability of DAL algorithms will benefit from employing CC and WSL methods for the learning and labeling process. We inspect the overlaps between the three research areas and identify relevant and exciting research questions at the intersection of these areas.

  This article explores the position of industrial Internet platforms (IIPs) in manufacturing value chains. We develop an understanding of the role of data in global value chains (GVCs), referring to literature on intangible assets and theories on platform business models. We use data from a qualitative empirical study based on 33 interviews on platforms active on the German market to answer (1) whether there are tendencies of oligopolization that lead to an accumulation of power on the side of the platforms, and (2) whether it is the platforms that capture most of the gains derived from higher productivity or lower transaction costs. The analysis shows that platforms mainly act as service providers and/or intermediaries that support manufacturing companies in reaping benefits from data. While the relationship between platforms and manufacturers currently corresponds to a symbiosis, a stronger power imbalance could evolve in the future since processes of oligopolization are likely.

  This study examined the incremental validity of different information and communication technologies (ICT)-related person characteristics over and above intelligence and and prior achievement when predicting ICT literacy across a period of three years. Relative weights analyses were performed to determine the relative contribution of each predictor towards explaining variance in ICT literacy. We used data from German NEPS that tracks representative samples of German students across their school careers. The sample consisted of 14,436 fifteen-year-old German students who provided self-reports on several ICT-related variables: self-confidence, usage motives, breadth of usage, access, experience, usage at home and at school. Data were analyzed cross-sectionally and longitudinally with structural equation models and path analyses, respectively. Cross-sectionally, all ICT-related variables incrementally predicted ICT literacy after controlling for intelligenc (explained variance: 0.4\%--14.1\%). Longitudinally, ICT self-confidence, ICT-related usage motives, breadth of ICT usage, ICT usage at school, and ICT experience incrementally predict ICT literacy after controlling for intelligence and prior achievement.three years later (explained variance: 0.3\%--8.1\%). Relative weights providing estimates of relative importance of each predictor showed that intelligence (cross-sectional) and prior achievement and intelligence, respectively (longitudinal) explained the largest portion of variance in ICT literacy, followed by ICT self-confidence, and ICT usage motives as the strongest ICT-related variables. These results emphasize that ICT-related motivational constructs play an important role in the development of ICT literacy.

  In this work, we obtained an approximate bound state solution to Schrodinger with Hulthen plus exponential Coulombic potential with centrifugal potential barrier using parametric Nikiforov-Uvarov method. We obtained both the eigen energy and the wave functions to non -relativistic wave equations. We implement Matlab algorithm to obtained the numerical bound state energies for various values of adjustable screening parameter at various quantum state.. The developed potential reduces to Hulthen potential and the numerical bound state energy conform to that of existing literature.

  We study the temporal covariance of network co-evolution via the cross-link structure of networks, for which we take advantage of the formalism of hypergraphs to map cross-link structures back to network nodes. We investigate two sets of temporal network data in detail. In a network of coupled nonlinear oscillators, hyperedges that consist of network edges with temporally co-varying weights uncover the driving co-evolution patterns of edge weight dynamics both within and between oscillator communities. In the human brain, networks that represent temporal changes in brain activity during learning exhibit early co-evolution that then settles down with practice, and subsequent decreases in hyperedge size are consistent with emergence of an autonomous subgraph whose dynamics no longer depends on other parts of the network. Our results on real and synthetic networks give a poignant demonstration of the ability of cross-link structure to uncover unexpected co-evolution attributes in both real and synthetic dynamical systems. This, in turn, illustrates the utility of analyzing cross-links for investigating the structure of temporal networks.

  Time varying correlations are often estimated with multivariate generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) models that are linear in squares and cross products of the data. A new class of multivariate models called dynamic conditional correlation models is proposed. These have the flexibility of univariate GARCH models coupled with parsimonious parametric models for the correlations. They are not linear but can often be estimated very simply with univariate or two-step methods based on the likelihood function. It is shown that they perform well in a variety of situations and provide sensible empirical results.
