The event titled ‘Mobility as a Service – don’t hesitate to cooperate!’ which is an event series organized by MHP Lab ( a porsche Company )(www.mhp.com/de/first-tuesday) gave the PROJEKTIONISTEN GmbH under their mobility brand 1KLANG (www.1klang.mobi) the opportunity to present their take on the mobility challenges cities are facing in the coming years.
As part of the pitch deck presentation as well as during the podium discussion we were able to also present our project Data4UrbanMobility.
Allowing the public a deeper insight into the current focus of the ongoing research as well as answering questions concerning mobility sector research in general.
Presented were also different aspects of the Urban Mobility Assistance ( UMA ) (www.urbanmobilityassistance.de)portfolio.
Which are apps developed by the Wolfsburg AG in conjunction with 1Klang.
Inside the presented applications the results surrounding incentivization and community features from the D4UM Project had been integrated.
Following that part of the presentation, the mobility app D4UM could be shown, which offers travel information, events and other useful features for the end user.
The MiC app (Move in the City) was also presented, which is a Citizen Science project that will provide further tracking data to the D4UM project. Among all the fruitful discussions was one which resulted in the possible collaboration with the Finnish company MOPRIM (www.moprim.com)

  In our changing climate we expect an increase in the frequency of heatwaves, which are extreme events that can have severe consequences for human health, ecosystems, and economies. In this study, we examine how the weakening of the atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) may influence the occurrence of extreme warm events in Europe. Our analysis is based on a series of numerical experiments conducted using the EC-Earth3 climate model, which includes three ensembles of 20 Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project-like members. The large ensemble size makes these simulations well-suited to studying rare extreme events. Our findings reveal that during boreal summer, the Northern hemisphere (NH) experiences overall mean cooling, most pronounced in the North Atlantic region. Therefore, the extreme warm events in Europe identified by using a fixed threshold tend to be less frequent. However, the cooling pattern reduces the meridional gradient of near-surface air temperature at high latitudes of the NH. As a result, the speed of the summer jet stream decreases, while the frequency of Ural atmospheric blocking events increases. Atmospheric blocking in summer is closely linked to heatwaves, primarily through subsidence warming and enhanced downward shortwave radiation under clear sky conditions. Consequently, the weakening of the AMOC leads to an increased frequency of heatwaves in Eastern Europe, the only region that presents this opposite trend. This study highlights the significant role that three-dimensional ocean circulation plays in shaping weather patterns, including extreme events such as heatwaves in Europe. These findings have important implications for future climate projections, as the AMOC is expected to weaken by the end of this century. Thus, as the Earth continues to warm, we may face an increased risk of heatwaves due to the combined effects of global warming and a weakening AMOC.

  Human annotators typically provide annotated data for training machine learning models, such as neural networks. Yet, human annotations are subject to noise, impairing generalization performances. Methodological research on approaches counteracting noisy annotations requires corresponding datasets for a meaningful empirical evaluation. Consequently, we introduce a novel benchmark dataset, dopanim, consisting of about 15,750 animal images of 15 classes with ground truth labels. For approximately 10,500 of these images, 20 humans provided over 52,000 annotations with an accuracy of circa 67%. Its key attributes include (1) the challenging task of classifying doppelganger animals, (2) human-estimated likelihoods as annotations, and (3) annotator metadata. We benchmark well-known multi-annotator learning approaches using seven variants of this dataset and outline further evaluation use cases such as learning beyond hard class labels and active learning. Our dataset and a comprehensive codebase are publicly available to emulate the data collection process and to reproduce all empirical results.

  Training with noisy class labels impairs neural networks' generalization performance. In this context, mixup is a popular regularization technique to improve training robustness by making memorizing false class labels more difficult. However, mixup neglects that multiple annotators, e.g., crowdworkers, typically provide class labels. Therefore, we propose an extension of mixup, which handles multiple class labels per instance while considering which class label originates from which annotator. Integrated into our multi-annotator classification framework annot-mix, it performs superiorly to eleven (mostly state-of-the-art) approaches in an evaluation study with eleven datasets comprising noisy class labels from either human or simulated annotators.   In Spain, the importance of the foreign-born population in sociodemographic processes is undeniable: in 2023, they number more than 8.2 million and represent 17.1% of the population. The different waves of arrival have generated a demand for housing on existing residential systems. This study analyzes the housing tenure regime of the immigrant population based on the 2001, 2011 and 2021 censuses. It seeks to identify the evolution of access to home ownership according to the continental origin of the immigrants, comparing their behavior with that of the natives and considering the year of arrival in Spain. The first results show an increase in immigrant homeownership, including new arrivals and young people, although maintaining the distance with the proportion of homeownership among autochthonous immigrants. However, the methodology used to obtain data from the last census by crossing official records could be hiding phenomena such as late-stage emancipations and family reunifications or secondary tenure regimes such as subletting or shared housing, which, added to the under-recording of rentals, could distort the results.

  Abstract: Introduction: Circulating precursor cell populations of various lineages have been identified with putative functions in tissue regeneration, which may have potential for cell based individual regenerative strategies. We previously demonstrated the enrichment of an angiogenic precursor cell population from peripheral blood mononuclear cells by CYR61, a protein of the CCN family. In vivo, CYR61 mediates the binding of leukocytes and particular monocyte populations at sites of vascular inflammation. Methods: We present an in vitro enrichment system mimicking (patho) physiology and at the same time representing an effective tool for enrichment of the CYR61-binding blood cells and analyzed this cell population in depth. Results: In comparison to fibronectin coating, which is commonly used for selection of endothelial progenitor cells (EPC), CYR61-based enrichment resulted in 8-fold higher cell yields. The CYR61-enriched cell population harbors features of both, early EPC and the monocyte macrophage lineage and therefore represents myeloid angiogenic cells (MAC). This is supported by RNAseq of CYR61-enriched cells and flow cytometry analysis of CD11b expression and acLDL uptake. Functional assays showed that CYR61-enriched MAC have the ability to develop a multinucleated osteoclast-like phenotype as well as to support and participate in angiogenic networks in Matrigel assays. Interestingly, co-cultured CYR61-enriched MAC and their supernatants inhibit mineralization of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) during in vitro osteogenic differentiation. Further, osteopontin is highly abundant in our CYR61-enriched MAC as confirmed on mRNA and protein level. Conclusion: The CYR61-enriched MAC, as an autologous source, may represent both a mirror of certain individual regeneration capacities and an important tool to modulate tissue regeneration.

  Objectives: A concern with the ESKAPE pathogen, Enterobacter bugandensis, and other species of the Enterobacter cloacae complex, is the frequent appearance of multidrug resistance against last-resort antibiotics, such as polymyxins. Methods: Here, we investigated the responses to polymyxin B (PMB) in two PMB-resistant E. bugandensis clinical isolates by global transcriptomics and deletion mutagenesis. Results: In both isolates, the genes of the CrrAB-regulated operon, including crrC and kexD, displayed the highest levels of upregulation in response to PMB. ∆crrC and ∆kexD mutants became highly susceptible to PMB and lost the heteroresistant phenotype. Conversely, heterologous expression of CrrC and KexD proteins increased PMB resistance in a sensitive Enterobacter ludwigii clinical isolate and in the Escherichia coli K12 strain, W3110. The efflux pump, AcrABTolC, and the two component regulators, PhoPQ and CrrAB, also contributed to PMB resistance and heteroresistance. Additionally, the lipid A modification with 4-L-aminoarabinose (L-Ara4N), mediated by the arnBCADTEF operon, was critical to determine PMB resistance. Biochemical experiments, supported by mass spectrometry and structural modelling, indicated that CrrC is an inner membrane protein that interacts with the membrane domain of the KexD pump. Similar interactions were modeled for AcrB and AcrD efflux pumps. Conclusion: Our results support a model where drug efflux potentiated by CrrC interaction with membrane domains of major efflux pumps combined with resistance to PMB entry by the L-Ara4N lipid A modification, under the control of PhoPQ and CrrAB, confers the bacterium high-level resistance and heteroresistance to PMB.

  The article presents the results of the research program “World Values Survey” (WVS) - the largest comparative study conducted on the basis of universities around the world with the aim of studying values and beliefs of the population. Values are considered as the central core of the structure of the spiritual and moral crisis, the problem of defining values, their typologies, and the problem faced by the sociologist who studies the spiritual and moral crisis through the system of values and value orientations. The WVS is the only academic study that includes the full range of national variations: from the very poor to the richest countries, from countries with very authoritarian regimes to the most liberal democracies, covering all cultural zones of the world. Participants in the “World Values Study” program analyze changing value orientations and their impact on social and political life, using high-class tools and scientific research methods in each country. The WVS program has demonstrated that many deep-sea plants subsequently undergo widespread intergenerational change. In order to monitor these changes and study their consequences, WVS conducted a series of survey waves in more than 100 societies on all continents. A central theme underlying the conception of the WVS was the hypothesis that economic and technological transformations bring significant changes in the values, beliefs and behaviors of the population. Analysis of WVS data supports this hypothesis, revealing widespread and consistent differences between the social, economic, religious and political attitudes of populations living in high-income countries and people living in low-income countries. The WVS’s actual data makes it clear that the basic values and attitudes of populations around the world are changing and that change is happening according to consistent and predictable algorithms.

Although dysfunction of other organ systems continues to receive more clinical attention, delirium is now recognized to be a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality in the ICU, and it is recommended that all ICU patients be monitored using a validated delirium assessment instrument. Patients with delirium have longer hospital stays and lower 6-month survival than do patients without delirium, and preliminary research suggests that delirium may be associated with cognitive impairment that persists months to years after discharge. Little evidence exists regarding the prevention and treatment of delirium in the ICU, but multicomponent interventions reduce the incidence of delirium in non-ICU studies. Strategies for the prevention and treatment of ICU delirium are the subjects of multiple ongoing investigations.
